Issues : Long accents

b. 196

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II

No marks in GC (→GE)

Different accents in FE

Short accents in EE

..

In the main text we give accents of different length according to FE. The lack of such difference in EE is a typical inaccuracy of Chopin's first editions, and no accents in GC (→GE) is an oversight of the copyist (cf. bar 8).

b. 216

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II

Different accents in GC (→GE)

No marks in FE

Long accent in EE

..

As in bar 28, in the main text we give the notation in GC (→GE) which raises no reservations. The lack of accents in FE is certainly a mistake, and the mark in EE – most probably a long accent – a complement likely by Chopin.

b. 234-237

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II

Long accents &  in GC (→GE)

No signs in FE

2 short accents in EE1

3 short accents in EE2

2 long accents suggested by the editors

..

In the main text we suggest a version based on additions introduced most probably by Chopin in the base text to EE1. We adopt the placement and type of the used accents, which in EE could have been recreated inaccurately, from the undoubtedly authentic notation of the previous version of GC (→GE).
