b. 87

composition: Op. 25 No 11, Etude in A minor

 &  in GC (→GE)

 in FE

 &  in EE

..

GC does not bear traces of corrections in this place, so it is hard to state how the difference between the sources occurred and, as a consequence, what the chronology of the versions was. In the main text we give the indication of the base source, i.e. GC (→GE), however, the version of EE may also be authentic and it is not certain which of them conveys the sense of Chopin's notation in a more accurate manner. See also the notes on accents and the dot.

composition: Op. 25 No 11, Etude in A minor

No marks in GC (→GE)

Accent in L.H. in FE

Two accents in EE

Our variant suggestion

..

In the main text we give an accent over d3 in the L.H., present in FE and EE and, in a variant form (in brackets), a long accent at the beginning of the bar, present only in EE. Cf. the note on staccato in the L.H.

No mark in GC (→GE) & EE

Dot in FE

Our variant suggestion

..

The staccato dot could have been added by Chopin in the proofreading of FE (or still in the base text to this edition), perhaps together with the pedalling. Taking into account the differences in indications at the beginning of this bar present in the sources, in the main text we leave the inclusion of the dot at the performer's discretion.
