Verbal indications

b. 6-8

composition: Op. 25 No 11, Etude in A minor

dim. - - in GC

dimi-nu-en-do in EE

No indication in FE

dimin. - - - - in GE

..

The dim. indication was added by Chopin in GC (→GE), most probably also in the base text to EE. Its absence in FE proves that Chopin probably omitted the base text to this edition at the time of completing the Stichvorlage manuscripts in these bars. Similarly  in bar 8.

b. 9-10

composition: Op. 25 No 11, Etude in A minor

in bar 9 in GC (→GE)

No indication in FE

in bars 9-10 in EE

..

The marcato indication in GC is written by the copyist, which, considering the absence of indication in FE, probably means that Chopin wrote it in the base text to EE. It is, however, not so obvious in the case of repetition of this indication in EE in bar 10, as it is not included in any of the sources. Therefore, in the main text we give only the first of them.

b. 13

composition: Op. 25 No 11, Etude in A minor

in GC (→GE)

No marking in FE

in EE

..

Same as in bar 5,  in EE is the original version – in GC one can see correction of  to  performed with Chopin's hand. Here, however, Chopin forgot to introduce a new indication in the base text to FE or resigned from repeating the indication, remembering the entry in bar 5. The second possibility, however, seems to be less likely due to dim. in bars 7-8.

b. 23

composition: Op. 25 No 11, Etude in A minor

in GC (→GE) & EE

No marking in FE

The  indication, added in GC (→GE) by Chopin, is also in EE. The absence of the sign in FE reflects probably the original state of the Stichvorlage manuscripts. Similarly dim. in bars 25-26 and  in bar 31.

b. 24-26

composition: Op. 25 No 11, Etude in A minor

dim. - - - - in GC

No indication in FE

dimi-nu-en-do in EE

dimin. - - in GE1

dimin. - - - in GE2 (→GE3)

..

Quite a significant difference in the range of the diminuendo indication suggests that it was written by Chopin in GC and base text to EE independently. The earlier ending of the dashes determining the range of this indication in GE1 is probably a result of an inaccurate interpretation of GC and perhaps also difficulties with finding place for some of them.
