The pedal release mark , placed at the end of the bar in A, was gradually moved to the left in subsequent editions (GE, FE and EE) so that it appeared earlier and earlier in the bar.

ritenuto in the middle of the bar in A

ritenuto at the beginning of the bar in GE (→FE→EE)

In A, the word ritenuto appears more or less mid-bar, which allows for a certain freedom in its interpretation, as it may either be binding from the beginning of that bar or apply predominantly to the motif in the 2nd half of the bar. In GE (→FE→EE) it was printed at the beginning of the bar and thus the extent of its application was determined.

The shape of the accent in A is typical for long accents and it was fairly accurately reproduced in GE. The mark in FE (→EE) had the form of a short accent, which must be considered an inaccuracy.
