b. 150-151

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

2 slurs in A (→EE)

1 slur in GC (→GE) & FE

..

Bar 151 starts a new line in A (→GC), and the literally read slurs, written with impetus, denote one slur over two bars. This reading was reproduced in both FE and GE. Only in EE  each bar is embraced with one slur, presumably on the basis of the comparison with analogous passages – in all seven passages (bars 48-49, 50-51, 56-57, 58-59, 142-143, 144-145 and 152-153) the slurs are separated. Moreover six of the corresponding pairs of bars are written in one line, so that the slurring raises no doubt whatsoever. On this account, we also give separate slurs in the main text.

b. 151

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

No sign in A (→EE,GCGE1)

in FE & GE2 (→GE3)

..

The lack of dynamic marking in A (→EE,GCGE1) could result from distraction (or lack of space) connected with the correction. In FE and GE2 (→GE3) a  was added, most likely by analogy to bars 141, 143, 147 and 149.

b. 152

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

..

In A (→GC,FE) the  raising b1 to b1 is only written before the 8th semiquaver, and there is no raising b to b in the L.H. Chopin wrote in the latter in GC (→GE), it was also added in FE3 and EE. The notation of the R.H. was supplemented in EE and GE, but only EE removed the then superfluous  in the 2nd half of the bar.

b. 156-158

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

Slur beyond bar 158 in A

Slur to bar 158 in GC (→GE) & EE

Slur to bar 156 in FE

..

The slur in the R.H. in FE ends in bar 156. It is undoubtedly the editor's revision, as bar 156 opens a new line in FE, while in A it is in the middle of the stave, therefore, an accidental break of the started slur is out of the question.

b. 178

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

..

In A (→GC,FE1FE2) there is no  raising f1 to f1 in bar 178 and f to f in bar 182. The accidentals were added in EE, GE and FE3.
