b. 186

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

c2 in A (→GC,FE,EE)

c2 in GE1 (→GE2)

..

lowering c2 to c2, added in GE1 (→GE2) in the middle of bar, presents the last of the arbitrary revisions resulting from complete misunderstanding of Chopin's sequence in bars 185-186. The accidental was removed in GE3.

b. 188

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

Slur to 3rd quaver in A (literal readingGCGE)

Slur to 6th quaver in A (contextual interpretation→FE,EE)

..

In A (→GC) the slur breaks in the middle of the bar, which in A is caused by the fact of writing the 2nd half on a new page. This is how it was understood in FE and EE, in which the slur reaches the end of the bar. In the graphic layout of GC, in which this bar is not divided, the erroneous shortening of the slur is not that obvious and was arbitrarily recreated in GE.

issues: Inaccurate slurs in A , Uncertain slur continuation
