b. 94-95

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

in A (→FE)

in GC (→GE)

in EE

..

We regard the hairpin , shorter than in the remaining three analogous bars, as an imprecision of the notation of A (→FE) – in bars 38-41, Chopin extended similar signs. EE also extended the corresponding hairpin accordingly. A further shortening of the sign in GC (→GE) results probably from the transition to a new line in bar 95.

b. 95

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

Long accent in A

No mark in GC (→GE)

in FE

Short accent in EE

..

The typical long accent in A was misrepresented in FE (as a diminuendo hairpin) and EE (as a short accent). In GC (→GE) the sign was overlooked.

b. 101-102

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

The lack of dynamic hairpins in GC (→GE) and FE ( ), and in EE () results from a misleading notation in A, where those signs can be mistaken for fragments of L.H. slurs.

The lack of a  hairpin is most probably an oversight by the engraver of FE.
