b. 234-235

composition: Op. 42, Waltz in A♭ major

Slur in FE0 (→FE,FEGGE1)

Slur in EE

No slur in GE2 (→GE3)

..

The short slur between the last semiquaver in bar 234 and the first note in bar 235, printed in FE0 (→FE,GE1), and reproduced also in EE (in a probably revised form), is presumably a remnant of the original, negligent and incomplete slurring of [A]. The notation in FE and GE1 does not seem likely to be faithful to the original script, either—EE is possibly closer to it. In the main text we omit this slur, regarding longer phrase marks added by Chopin in the basis for EE and in the proofreading of FE as intended to replace this short slur. This is, however, not so obvious in case of FEG in which the written slur does not seemingly embrace the ending of bar 234. Therefore, if a shortest version of the slur in bars 232-234 is adopted, then  the discussed short slur is recommended to be taken into consideration (in the EE version).

b. 235

composition: Op. 42, Waltz in A♭ major

No e1 in chord in FE0 (→FE,EE,FEGGE1)

e1 in chord in GE2 (→GE3)

..

GE2 (→GE3) added an arbitrary eto the chord on the 3rd crotchet. On the other hand, it cannot be entirely excluded that lack of this note is an oversight of the engraver of FE0, unnoticed by Chopin.

b. 237

composition: Op. 42, Waltz in A♭ major

..

There are no accidentals before the 2nd chord of the bar in FE0 (→FEG). This patent inaccuracy was corrected in FE1 (partially, as only a  before bwas added) and in GE1 and EE (both necessary naturals). In GE2 (→GE3) the third  before ewas added.

Different chords in GE3

..

The original version of last two chords, conveyed by FE0 (→FEGGE1GE2), was completed by Chopin with a2 notes in the proofreading of FE1 and in the base text to EE. In turn, in GE3 another addition was introduced, most probably modelled on the progression of chords in the previous bar. However, there are no reasons for possible recognition of this version as authentic.

In all base texts Chopin added a  sign. In GE2 (→GE3) this very characteristic for Chopin indication was changed to , used by the composer only occasionally.
