b. 27-28

composition: Op. 42, Waltz in A♭ major

..

The cautionary  of din bar 27 occurs in the majority of the sources (the sign was removed only in GE3). It is probably a mistake, while the sign – completely redundant in this place – was supposed to be in bar 28, where it is justified. The  in bar 28 was added in GE1 (→GE2GE3).

b. 38

composition: Op. 42, Waltz in A♭ major

a-e1 in FE0 (→FE1,FEGGE1)

a-c1-e1 in EE & GE2 (→GE3)

..

On the 2nd and 3rd crotchet FE and GE1 have empty a-efifths. It is undoubtedly an omission of the engraver of FE – cf. analogous bars 30 and 202 – it could have been caused by the unclear notation of [A]. Chopin probably added the chords in the base text to EE. The corrected version, probably on the basis of a comparison with the mentioned bars, was introduced also in GE2 (→GE3).

b. 45-53

In the main text we include the cautionary flats next to d2 in bars 45 and 53 added in GE1 (→GE2GE3).

Continuous slur in FE0 (→FE,FEGGE1)

End of slur in EE & GE2 (→GE3)

..

In EE and GE2 (→GE3) the slur between bars 88 and 89 was broken. In the case of EE, it is hard to state whether it is an inaccuracy or a revision (one cannot even completely exclude Chopin's possible proofreading in the base text to EE). The version of GE2 (→GE3) is certainly a result of a revision. Due to the lack of proof for a later change of Chopin's concept, in the main text we abide by the slurring following from the notation of FE (→GE1), based on [A].

b. 91

composition: Op. 42, Waltz in A♭ major

Fifth in FE0 (→→FE1,EE,FEGGE)

Third in GE2 (→GE3)

..

In GE2 (→GE3), at the beginning of the bar, the e-b fifth was arbitrarily changed to a g-b third, most probably following the analogy with bar 95. According to us, there is no reason to suspect a Terzverschreibung in bar 91, as the use of varied two-note chords is justified with a different harmonic situation in bars 90-91 and 94-95. Cf. bar 103.
