b. 1

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

in Ap

in FEcor

in FE (→GE1GE2, →EE)

in GE3 (→GE4GE5)

..

In the main text we give the tempo indications added by Chopin in subsequent proofs of FE (→GE1GE2, →EE): Allegro already in FEcor, metronome tempo in the next one. In GE3 (→GE4GE5) the metronome marking erroneously displays 114.
Different indications written in Ap may not have a universal value, as the Etude in this autograph differs quite significantly from the published version in terms of pianistics.

b. 8

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

No indication in CLI, Ap & GE4 (→GE5)

dim. in FE (→EE,GE1GE2GE3)

..

In the main text we give the dim. indication written by Chopin in FEcor (→FEEE). In GE1 (→GE2GE3) an extended, dimin. form was used, and in later GE,s the indication was omitted.

b. 33-34

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

No signs in CLI & EE2

 in Ap

 in FEcor

 in FE

 in GE1 (→GE2)

 in GE3 (→GE4GE5)

 in EE3 (→EE4)

..

The sources differ in the range of  entries. Chopin's entries in Ap and FEcor do not show significant differences, in the main text we give the version of FEcor. In finished FE the hairpins in bar 33 were shortened, the version was reproduced in EE with insignificant displacements (except for EE2, where both signs were omitted). It is GE that displays the greatest differences in comparison with the base text: the hairpins in bar 33 actually correspond to authentic signs, yet the sign in bar 34 in GE1 (→GE2) was arbitrarily prolonged, which distorted its meaning, whereas in GE3 and subsequent ones – it was totally omitted.

b. 44

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

No mark in CLI, EE2 & GE3 (→GE4GE5)

Long accent in Ap, FEcor & EE3 (→EE4)

 in FE (→GE1GE2

..

According to us, the mark written by Chopin in FEcor is a long accent, same as in analogous bar 17. An unequivocal long accent is also in Ap. In FE (→GE1GE2) the mark was interpreted as  hairpins, which, in this case, cannot be considered as an inaccuracy. In EE2 and GE3 (→GE4GE5) the sign was omitted, whereas in EE3 (→EE4) a long (!?) accent was added.
