b. 17

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

No slur in CLI & FE (→EE2)

Slur in Ap, FEcor & GE

Slur in EE3 (→EE4)

..

The slur over the chords is in Ap, Chopin wrote it also in FEcor, however in finished FE (→EE) the sign was omitted, probably due to an overlap of a few Chopin's entries in this place. It is unclear how the slur appeared in GE; probably it is an accurate revision of the editor, e.g., on the basis of comparison with bar 44 (see also the remark in the next bar). In EE3 (→EE4) the slur was added under the chords, which is certainly an arbitrary revision.

b. 19

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

g-b-c1 in CLI

C-c & c-g-c1 in Ap & FE (→GE1GE1a, →EE2EE3)

GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5) & EE4

..

The original version of the L.H. part in the 1st half of bar 19 was discarded by Chopin both in Ap and in the base text for FE (→GE,EE). We add cautionary naturals on the 2nd beat of the bar (also in bar 20); an identical addition was performed in later GE and EE4.

b. 19-20

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

..

In none of the authentic sources the notation of the accidentals in the part of the R.H. is entirely correct in these bars – particularly in bar 19. However, the inaccuracies do not pose problems in establishing the correct text. Moreover, in all sources except for Ap the unnecessary  before f2, the 14th semiquaver in bar 20, is repeated.

b. 21-22

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

..

In CLI there are no essential accidentals in the part of the R.H., some of them were also omitted in the base text for FE. In subsequent proofings of FE Chopin, however, added all of them, so final FE (→EE) does not include any errors in this scope. Ap also has a totally correct notation. Lack of the  returning g2 at the end of bar 21 in GE1 probably means that Chopin added it only in the last proofreading of FE. The sign was added in GE2 (→GE3) together with few others, reminding; the majority of the latter were then removed in GE4 (→GE5), while one was added in EE4. We discuss the 2nd half of bar 22 in a separate entry due to the enharmonic difference in the notation of the 10th semiquaver.

b. 25

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

..

In FE, before the empty space after the deleted c3 note, a  was inserted, which was moved by the reviser of GE before f3. In EE2 (→EE3) the sign was removed, yet in EE4 was added before f3, probably after noticing it in GE.
