b. 288-289

composition: Op. 39, Scherzo in C♯ minor

d tied in GE

No tie in EE, GC & FE

..

The tie sustaining d in GE is probably an arbitrary addition, made by analogy with bars 156-157.

b. 330

composition: Op. 39, Scherzo in C♯ minor

Rhythm in EE and an interpretation of GC's script

Rhythm in FE & GE

..

The initial rhythm in RH () is confirmed in EE and also in GC (despite an obvious error - ). Traces of printing edits in FE allow us to see that the rhythm intitially was notated in this edition too but it was changed by Chopin to . We see this variant also in GE, revised most probably based on the rhythm in the earlier phrase, in bars 322 and 326

b. 334

composition: Op. 39, Scherzo in C♯ minor

Rhythm in EE

Rhythm in GC (→GE1)

Rhythm in FE & GE2

..

Out of the three rhythmic variants in the RH part in this bar only two are definitely authentic :  in GC (>GE1) and   in FE. The rhythm in GC comes as the earlier version and while correcting FE Chopin replaced it with the rhythm consistent with bars 322, 326 and also 342. The EE variant may well be the earliest one of the bar, however we cannot rule out an error here. The editor of GE2 when introducing the FE version most probably unconsciously repeated Chopin's correction made earlier to FE.

b. 373

composition: Op. 39, Scherzo in C♯ minor

Rhythm in EE & FE

Rhythm in GC (→GE)

..

Both rhythmical variations are most likely authentic. The fact that  appears just once in GC (→GE) may be linked to increased number of accents on a notes (in double octaves) beginning with b. 360 (also the ones added in b. 374). For the main text we adopt - here and in all the corresponding bars - the FE version as most probably the latest one.

(in GC in LH there is a notation error of the first octave - see previously annotation)
