Slurs

b. 85-86

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

The slurs of A

The editors' suggestion

..

The phrase mark begins in  A from the beginning of the bar, also embracing the grace note. A also has another, shorter, slur for the quaver triplet. GE (→FEEE) only have one slur, beginning from the 1st note of the triplet. We give the phrasing slur of A, omitting the additional triplet slur (cf. General Editorial Principles, point 16).

b. 89-91

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

The slurs of  A (interpreted in context)

Literal reading of A (→GE1FEEE)

Another slur added in GE2 (→GE3)

The editors' proposed version

..

In A, the course of writing was interrupted both between bars 89-90 (by the deleted fragment) and between bars 90-91 (by passing on to a new line of the text) .This has caused unclear and unnecessarily complicated notation of the slurs.

b. 92

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

A slur over the triplet in A (→GE1FEEE)

No triplet slur in GE2 (→GE3)

..

In A (→GE1FEEE), the triplet on the 2nd beat of the bar has an additional slur. We omit that slur in line with our General Editorial Principlespoint 16. The slur is also absent from GE2 (→GE3).

b. 93-94

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

Slurs in A (→GEFEEE)

The editors' alternative proposition

..

In the main text we give the generally consistent version of the sources; the only difference is the lack of ending of the second slur at the beginning of bar 94 (in a new line). In this context, those slurs practically mean the same as a single slur, therefore for the purpose of coherence with the notation of the neighbouring bars we suggest that solution here as well.
