Slurs

b. 59-60

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

The slur of A (→GEFEEE) read literally

..

It is not clear when the slur exactly begins in A. Taken literally as it is, it begins on the 3rd beat of bar 59, and this is how it was presented in GE (→FEEE). Yet, a frequent manner of making the slurs too long in A justifies an opinion that Chopin could intend that slur to apply to bar 60 only.

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

No slur in A

The slur of GE1 (literal reading)

A probable interpretation of the slur of GE1 (→FEEE, →GE2GE3)

..

A has no slur in the 2nd volta of bar 60. The slur added in GE1 – perhaps by Chopin himself – is not clear as far as its starting point is concerned. It may be interpreted either as a continuation or as a freshly started slur. It was read as the latter in FE (→EE), as well as GE2 (→GE3).

b. 61-62

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

Slurs in A (→GEFEEE)

The editors' alternative proposition

..

A (→GEFEEE) has two slurs in this bar. In all the analogous places further on in the text (seven in total) the slur running from the 1st note of the bar ends in the subsequent bar. Then, it may be the case that the slurring in bar 61 is an initial version left unchanged due to Chopin's oversight.

b. 63

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

A slur under the triplet in A (→GE1FEEE)

Without an additional slur in GE2 (→GE3)

..

The extra slur under the triplet that can be seen in  A (→GE1FEEE) was omitted in GE2 (→GE3). In the context, that slur is just part of the triplet marking and we do not take it into consideration (cf. General Editorial Principlespoint 16).
