In our main text we give sempre rallentando, just like Chopin wrote it in A. In GE (→FE→EE) the word sempre was placed earlier, at the beginning of the bar, and rallentando was replaced with the abbreviation rallent. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE |

Considering their shape and location, the accents in bars 139 and 142 in A must be viewed as short ones, and this is how they were interpreted in GE (→FE→EE). This is also consistent with Chopin's notation used in similar situations in bars 120, 122 and 134. However, the marks are big enough to stir some doubt; Chopin might have wanted to have long accents here after all, as accented notes are sustained longer (cf. also bar 146). category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness issues: Long accents |

Chopin added the marking in the proofing of FE. In EE it was split into two separate parts, with allocated to the bass note and to the following chords, which in this case corresponds to the actual performance. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: EE revisions , Authentic corrections of FE |

In A (→GE1→FE) there are no naturals raising d flat-d flat1 to d-d1. This obvious omission on the part of Chopin was corrected in EE and GE2 (→GE3). category imprint: Differences between sources |
