b. 16

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

A long accent in A (→GE1FE)

A short accent in EE and GE2 (→GE3)

..

The long accent of A was quite faithfully reproduced in GE1 (→FE). Still, in EE and GE2 (→GE3) the sign was shortened to an ordinary short accent.

b. 16

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

No dot in A (→GE1FEEE)

A staccato dot in GE2 (→GE3)

..

We furnish the bass note d with a staccato dot, as the accidental omission of that sign seems more probable. Dots appear in A in similar bars 48 and 110. The dot was added in GE2 (→GE3).

A short accent in EE

In EE, the accent type was arbitrarily changed.

b. 18

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

A dot between the notes in A (→GE1FE)

No dot in EE

A dot above the notes in GE2 (→GE3)

The editors' suggestion

..

It is not certain whether the dot visible in A between the two notes of the sixth a1-f2 is a staccato sign or a miniature blot of ink without any significance. In all the places where Chopin marked staccato in a similar context, dots are placed above the notes. Therefore we leave the decision about taking this particular dot into consideration to the performer.

b. 19

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

A long accent in A

A short accent in GE (→FE)

No accent mark in EE

..

A long accent of A was reproduced as a short one in GE (→FE); EE does not have any accent mark here. The comparison with the analogous bars, but first of all the pedalling added by Chopin in FE, make us consider the notation of A to be inaccurate in this case.
