Slurs

b. 16-17

composition: Op. 24 No. 2, Mazurka in C major

No slur in A (→GEFE)

A slur in  EE

..

The slur added in the L.H. in EE is probably the result of an editorial revision (cf. another note in this bar). Accidental repetition of the slur from bars 15-16 is also possible. In the main text we preserve the only authentic version, i.e. that of A (→GEFE).

b. 16

composition: Op. 24 No. 2, Mazurka in C major

..

There are erasures visible over the R.H. part in A. One of the reasons behind that correction was to shorten the slur that commenced in the previous bar (a similar correction can be seen in bar 48). Chopin probably also removed the accent above the 3rd crotchet, perhaps in connection with placing it between the staves.

b. 19-20

composition: Op. 24 No. 2, Mazurka in C major

A slur in A (→GEFE), EE3

No slur in EE1 (→EE2)

..

The slur, omitted in EE1 (→EE2), was added back in EE3.

b. 22-23

composition: Op. 24 No. 2, Mazurka in C major

The slur in A, literal reading

Contextual interpretation of the slur of A (→GEFEEE)

..

The slur over bar 22 reaches over the 1st note of bar 23 in A . In the editors' opinion, this does not necessarily mean that the composer actually intended overlapping slurs here, as there are numerous slurring inaccuracies in A. In GE (→FEEE) the slurs are separated.

b. 27

composition: Op. 24 No. 2, Mazurka in C major

The slur in A (→GE1FEEE)

GE2 (→GE3)

..

In GE2 (→GE3) the slur was lengthened, probably by analogy with bar 35. In our main text we retain the notation of A (→GE1FEEE), as  in this context both notations are practically equivalent in meaning.
