b. 45

composition: WN 55, Waltz in F minor

The versions differ between themselves:
- in the rhythmic value on the 1st beat in the L.H.: in AO and AR, there is a crotchet, in CX, CC, FC, PE and FEF - a minim, whereas in AE, AK, AG (→CY) and GEF - a dotted minim
- in the consonances on the 2nd and 3rd beat in the L.H.: an f-b fourth in AO, AR, AE (→CX), CC, an a-b second in AK and AG (→CY) and an f-b-dtriad in F.
We present variants of the entire bar.

composition: WN 55, Waltz in F minor

Particular sources sometimes differ in the duration of the B note on the 1st beat in the L.H. In the autographs and in CX, CY and CC, it is a crotchet, in FC and FEF - a minim, whereas in PE and GEF - a dotted minim. In the repetition in FEF, which was written out, there is a dotted minim for the second time (like in PE and FEF).

In AO, AR, AE (→CX), AK, there are dyads - f-dsixths. In AG (→CY), an a note was added to the sixths, creating a full D major triad. CC and the version of F repeat the variant of the L.H. from bar 30.

In AO, there is a trill, whereas in AE (→CX) and CC - mordent. In AK, it is difficult to unambiguously interpret the notation of the ornament; it is most likely a mordent. The version of AR features a sole acrotchet, without ornament. In AG (→CY), there is a triplet (in AG, there is a letter of repetition of bar 21). The ornament in the form of two semiquaver grace notes in F, most probably resulting from an intention of writing out the mordent, is most likely Fontana's revision.

In CC, there is a cinstead of an a1. We consider it an example of the Terzverschreibung error; in the edition, we suggest an a1, like in the remaining sources.

The crescendo hairpin is present only in FEF and GEF and is most probably Fontana's revision.
