2 staccato dots in A, contextual interpretation

2 wedges in A, possible interpretation

Staccato dot in GE (→FE,EE,IE)

..

In A it is unclear whether the two staccato marks are to be interpreted as dots or wedges. We assume that they are dots due to the clear dot in the preceding bar. This is how the second mark – the first one was omitted – was interpreted in GE (→FE,EE,IE).

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt II

Wedge in A

No mark in GE (→FE,EE,IE)

..

In A the wedge over the R.H. crotchet on the 2nd beat of the bar blends in with the line of the octave sign, which almost certainly was the reason this mark was omitted in GE (→FE,EE,IE).

b. 31-32

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt II

G-g tied in A

G-g repeated in GE (→FE,EE,IE)

..

The absence of the ties to the G-g octave is most probably due to a mistake by the GE engraver (→FE,EE,IE).

Long & 2 short slurs in A

2 short slurs in GE (→FE,IE)

3 short slurs in EE

Long slur suggested by the editors

..

In the main text we omit the additional slurs over the first two triplets – cf. General Editorial Principlesp. 16. On the other hand, in GE (→FE,EE,IE) the longer, top slur was omitted.
The third triplet slur added in EE was an arbitrary decision by the reviser of this edition, justified in the face of the absence of a slur encompassing the entire passage.
