The FE1 version must be erroneous, which is proven by the unfounded to the bottom note of the R.H. bottom voice third, f – the engraver (or perhaps already Fontana in [FC]) repeated here an accidental standing next to the right (bottom) note of the correct text, which is a, requiring a . The fact that the erroneous FE1 version also includes a to a clearly demonstrates that Chopin was not the only participant in the process of proofreading FE1 – a reviser was present as well. It seems highly unlikely that Chopin noticed the missing and did not realise that the entire third was misplaced. The correct text was introduced in FE2 (→EE), in this case most probably at Chopin's request. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE , Terzverschreibung error , Authentic corrections of FE , FE revisions |

In FE1 the raising e1 to e1 was overlooked. The patent oversight was corrected in FE2 (→EE), most probably at Chopin's request, who also introduced another change here – see bar 28. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE , Authentic corrections of FE |

According to us, the mark getting increasingly shorter in FE and EE – in EE the mark is actually a long accent – resulted from inaccuracies in the recreation of the respective bases ([FC] and FE). It could have also been Fontana committing an inaccuracy in [FC]. However, it must be said that a possible difference in significance between these marks is marginal, since in the Chopinesque notation a hairpin not preceded by a mark means an 'extended long accent', which is to be interpreted as a long accent and diminuendo. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in FE , EE inaccuracies |
