b. 204-205

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

Slurs separated in b. 204 in A (→GE)

Slurs chained in b. 205 in FE (→EE)

Slurs separated in b. 205, our alternative suggestion

..

As in bars 199-203, the FE slurs may be an authentic variant of phrasing, yet most probably written down inaccurately. We assume that the beginning of the slur in bar 205 is probably erroneous (from the 1st chord, suggesting that the phrase should be divided internally, resulting in the dominant chord leading to the tonic chord being separated from it). Therefore, as an alternative for the source notation, we suggest moving the beginning of this slur over the next chord. In the main text we give here the A slurs (→GE), unquestionable in this place, despite the beginning of the slur starting in bar 204 being over the g1 semiquaver (most probably due to ink stoppage).

b. 205-221

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

..

In bar 205 and 221 we add a cautionary  to b in the main text. The naturals were also added by GE, which was also adopted by EE2.

b. 206

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

Slur to d1 in A, contextual interpretation

Slur to f1 in GE & FE (→EE)

..

The combination of an inaccurately written slur and the initial layout, in which the 2nd R.H. crotchet is written entirely on the bottom stave, resulted in a wrong interpretation of the slur ending both in GE and FE (→EE). Similarly, in bar 215.

b. 206

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

sempre legato in A (→GE) & EE2

No indication in FE (→EE1)

..

Chopin added sempre legato to A after [FC] had been finished, which explains its absence in FE (→EE1). In EE2 the indication was added on the basis of GE1.

b. 206

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

in A (→GE) & EE2

No marking in FE (→EE1)

..

Chopin added  to A most probably – as was the case with sempre legato – after [FC] had been finished, although in the case of a single, inconspicuous mark an oversight, e.g. by the copyist, cannot be ruled out. In EE2 the mark was added after comparing it with GE1
