b. 126

composition: Op. 12, Variations in B♭ major

Wedge in FE

No mark in GE & EE

..

The wedge over d4 ending the roulade in the preceding bar is placed in FE between the dashes marking the octave sign and the word loco at the end thereof. Consequently, it is poorly visible, which probably resulted in it having been omitted in the remaining editions.

b. 127

composition: Op. 12, Variations in B♭ major

No mark in FE (→GE,EE)

Wedge suggested by the editors

..

Taking into account the similarities between bar 125 and 127, in the main text we indicate staccato articulation for the 1st quaver in the 2nd half of the bar, as the performance markings in these bars either overlap or complement each other.

b. 129

composition: Op. 12, Variations in B♭ major

No markings in FE1 (→GE,EE)

Accent in FEO

Our variant suggestion

..

It is highly likely that the accent in the FEO teaching copy was added by Chopin, hence we include it in the main text in a variant form.

Staccato dots in FE (→EE)

No staccato dots in GE

..

The absence of staccato dots in GE must be a mistake, since dots are present in the L.H. part.

b. 134-140

composition: Op. 12, Variations in B♭ major

..

Most of the wedges present in FE (→EE) were arbitrarily changed to staccato dots in GE – see the note in bar 7. As the change covers all wedges included in GE, we consider the version of this edition to be one variant, on this page encompassing generally 4 marks in bar 134 and 139-140, yet we discuss the L.H. mark at the beginning of bar 140 separately due to other source issues.
