b. 131

composition: Op. 12, Variations in B♭ major

No slur in FE (→GE,EE)

Slur suggested by editors

..

In the main text we add a slur after the one present in the sources in an analogous figure in the 2nd half of the bar. The L.H. slurs in bars 129-131 include a few similar inaccuracies.

b. 133

composition: Op. 12, Variations in B♭ major

Staccato dots in FE (→EE)

No staccato dots in GE

..

The absence of staccato dots in GE must be a mistake, since dots are present in the L.H. part.

b. 133

composition: Op. 12, Variations in B♭ major

L.H. slur to b1 in FE (→GE,EE)

Slur to c2 & R.H. slur suggested by editors

..

Taking into account the 4 subsequent slurs in this and the next bar, always encompassing entire motifs, we consider the source L.H. slur to be inaccurate (one can assume negligence by the engraver or by Chopin in [A]). Therefore, in the main text we suggest a slur reaching c2; we also add a respective R.H. slur.

b. 133

composition: Op. 12, Variations in B♭ major

..

In the sources the naturals to a2, e2 and a1 are missing. This patent inaccuracy is partly due to the conviction that accidentals at a given pitch are valid regardless of the presence or absence of an octave sign.

d2 in FE (→EE)

d2 with fingering digit in FEO

e2 in GE

..

The e2 note, featured in GE instead of d2, could be a version prior to the last Chopinesque proofreading of FE (→EE). However, the presence of an accent over this note in GE, which, according to us, makes sense only above d2, suggests that the FE copy serving as the basis for GE included d2, hence e1 is rather a mistake by the GE engraver or even a revision. The accent is a strong argument for d2, present in FE (→EE), while the accuracy of this note is also confirmed by the fingering digit entered into FEO (included in the main text).
