Different slurs in sources

Slur in sources in b. 109-112

..

The shorter slur present in the sources in the repetition of this phrase (bars 109/133-112/136) probably resulted from a mistake by the copyist preparing the basis for PE1 on the basis of [A] – he could have, e.g. looked at similar bars 85-88 (in the R.H. part). In the main text we give a longer slur, which seems to fit better with the homogeneous, smooth accompaniment.

b. 111

f or d in PE1 (→PE2)

f in GE & PE3 (→PE4)

..

The version of PE1 (→PE2) – f in bar 111 and d in bar 111/135 – must contain an error in one of these bars, as the second place was almost certainly marked in [A] as a repetition of the first. The structure of the accompaniment figures in this episode suggests that the mistake was made the second time. An appropriate correction – probably based on a comparison with bar 111 – was introduced in GE and PE3 (→PE4).

Pedalling in sources

No markings in main text

..

As before, in the main text we omit the pedal markings present in these bars in the sources. It was the marks given in bars 9-19 that were repeated here, inaccurately, on top of that – see the notes on bars 115-118 and 119-120.

in sources

No indication in main text

..

The  indication repeated in this bar is most probably a mistake, since there are no reasons to remind the dynamics of the theme after 2 bars; a theme that has already appeared twice provided with the same or a similar indication –  in bar 9 and dolce in bar 41. Due to the above, in the main text we do not include this indication. In this and subsequent bars preceding the coda, there is also a number of other notation inaccuracies.

 in PE

  in GE

No markings in main text

..

In PE, at the beginning of bar 115, there is a  mark, which is not followed by any pedal markings until the end of the line in bar 118. It is most probably a mistake, partially corrected in GE, in which a  was added under the 3rd crotchet in bar 115. As in bars 113-114, in the main text we omit the pedal markings here – see bars 17-24.
