b. 115
The notation of bars 113-123 differs significantly with respect to the previous appearances of this theme, whereby the majority of the differences are either defects or imperfections:
- the L.H. part is written down with the use of the treble clef for the 2nd and 3rd beats of bars 113-116 and 119 and for entire bars 117-118. It contributed to the mistake in bar 116;
- in bar 115 the indication is repeated;
- pedal markings (not included in the main text) end abruptly after the mark in bar 115. Markings reappear in bar 119, whereby a mark is placed only just in bar 120;
- no R.H. slurs in bars 115, 120 and 123;
- no L.H. slur in bar 122;
- the first 4 quavers of the passage in bar 120 are written with the use of an octave sign and encompassed with a separate beam;
- the mordent in bar 123 is marked with a , and not with a double grace note.
It is difficult to say what the reason could be (perhaps more than one); however, it is certain that in this fragment the text of the Waltz is not fully reliable. In particular, in the discussed bar we omit , unnecessary in the face of an identical indication put 2 bars earlier.
