Slurs

b. 64-68

composition: Op. 30 No. 4, Mazurka in C# minor

Separate slurs in b. 65-66 & 67-68 in FC (→GE)

Continuous slur to b. 68 in FE (→EE)

..

The continuous slur of FE could be authentic; however, inaccuracies or mistakes in the interpretation of the handwritten basis for FE cannot be ruled out. In the main text we give the slurs of the principal source, FC, in accordance with the phrasing of both these sources in analogous bars 81-84.

b. 100-101

composition: Op. 30 No. 4, Mazurka in C# minor

Slur to b. 101 in FC (→GE)

Slur to end of b. 100 in FE (→EE)

..

The longer slur of FC (→GE) resulted from a correction by Chopin, who in FC added an ending of the slur reaching the c1-e1 third.

b. 100-101

composition: Op. 30 No. 4, Mazurka in C# minor

Slur to crotchet G in sources

Slur to C suggested by the editors

..

In the main text we give a slur resulting from the changes introduced by Chopin to FC, striving at integrating the beginning of the Mazurka main theme, that is the 1st beat of bar 101, with the preceding four-bar section, in particular the change of the chord to a single note, closing the bass line, and the extension of the R.H. slur. According to us, the fact that Chopin did not explicitly mark such an extension in the L.H. part is an oversight in the implementation of this wide-ranging change.

b. 110

composition: Op. 30 No. 4, Mazurka in C# minor

Slurs in FC

Slurs in FE (→EE) & GE

..

The slurs of FC are clearly inaccurate, which was corrected – probably on the basis of a comparison with analogous places – in GE.

b. 124

composition: Op. 30 No. 4, Mazurka in C# minor

No markings in sources

Dot & slur suggested by the editors

..

In the main text we add a staccato dot and a slur in the L.H. part after the markings of FC in analogous bars 22, 24 and 28 and 118, 120 and 122.
