b. 8

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

..

We add a cautionary flat next to b2. The sign was added by someone else in A and printed in GE.
It is the first out of several signs added in A by GE's engraver or reviser. The additions are of random character – they were introduced only in the 1st, 5th and 6th page of the notation. A part of additions (e.g. the flat in the described bar) are cautionary signs justified with the musical narration, however some of them are either unnecessary (e.g. in bar 104) or grossly erroneous (bars 103 and 106).

EE is lacking in naturals raising d1 to din the 2nd quaver in the L.H. and d1 to din the 6th quaver in the R.H. The mistake was corrected in EE2.

b. 8-9

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

..

A, FE and GE differ in the range of crescendo hairpins. GE edition has the longest hairpins, while the shortest are in A. EE is lacking them completely (cf. remark concerning bars 7-9). In A one can see the sign's prolongation (see the adjacent remark concerning corrections in A).

b. 8-9

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

Chopin changed the hairpins' concept in A: he deleted the crescendo hairpins in bar 9 and he prolonged the ones beginning in bar 8. Probably both changes were introduced at the same time: Chopin deleted the short hairpins in bar 9, planning to introduce a longer crescendo indication. In order to do that, he added an extension of the hairpins' arm from bar 8 or even the entire hairpins in two moves (the too short sign and extension).

According to us, the beginning of the slur, inaccurately placed in A, includes the 1st note of the motif. In the editions the slur begins a quaver earlier. In EE the slur runs until the end of bar 10 and in GE2 (→GE3→GE4) until the end of bar 12.
