b. 30

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

The sign staccato over f2 in A has clearly a shape of a wedge, similarly in FE and EE. In GE the sign was interpreted as a dot, which does not stem from A's ambiguous notation, but from the general rule adopted in the edition: in the entire Impromptu there is not a single appearance of wedges. The wedge in the L.H. in EE is probably an addition to the edition. Cf. bar 112.

In front of the 5th quaver, FE has a natural instead of a flat. Chopin corrected the mistake in all three pupils' copies: FEJ, FED and FES.

We add a slur over the double-note chords written in A. In GE1 it was moved under the notes, the correct notation was reinstated in GE2 (→GE3) (→GE4). The double slur EE is probably a result of an editorial revision, and the lack of the slur in FE – an error.

The accent in A is clearly longer than the three previous ones. In GE, similarly as in the entire Impromptu – it was interpreted as a regular, short accent. The short accent is also in FE and EE

We add cautionary naturals before f2 and f1. The signs were already added in GE2 (→GE3GE4).
