Articulation, Accents, Hairpins

b. 87-88

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

..

Lack of the accents in A, FE and EE probably does not mean that the motifs in those bars are to be performed differently than in the remaining analogous places. Therefore, taking into account the accents added in GE2 (→GE3GE4) seems to be completely justified. However, we maintain the notation of the basic source (A), as the remaining sources do not clearly indicate Chopin's inattention only in this case while writing A.

b. 89

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

We give the range of the crescendo hairpins on the basis of A. The signs in GE and EE are not much different in comparison with it: the hairpins in EE are slightly moved to the left and in GE they are equally extended on three triplet groups. The sign in FE is clearly different – its beginning is moved under the 2nd triplet group – and incompatible with analogous b. 7, hence it can be erroneous.

b. 90

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

We give the diminuendo hairpins in GE2, GE3, GE4 and EE after the version of analogous bar 8. The clearly shorter mark in FE is probably erroneous. Lack of the sign in A (→GE1) is most probably Chopin's oversight.

b. 90-91

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

We give the crescendo hairpins of FE. At the same time we correct the clearly imprecise sign in the 2nd half of bar 91 on the basis of analogous bar 9.
The signs in EE in bar 91 are probably erroneous – it seems that it is the signs from bar 92 or 94 that were placed here.
Lack of remarks in A (→GE1) is probably Chopin's oversight. In GE2 (→GE3GE4) they were completed according to bars 9-10.

b. 92

The range of diminuendo is heterogeneously determined in the sources. In A Chopin most probably forgot to write the hairpins, which was recreated by the engraver in GE1. In other sources the dynamic hairpins were added under the influence of the analogous situation in bar 10.
