b. 82

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

It is unclear whether Chopin wanted to write 3 equal accents in A or different ones. Actually, all three are significantly bigger than, e.g., the accents in bars 83-84, yet the first 2 differ quite clearly between themselves. The editions – as in the entire Impromptu – give only the short accents.

Lack of the accents in FE is certainly a result of an oversight (of the engraver of FE or of the author of the manuscript which served as the base text for the edition).

The sources differ in the range of dynamic hairpins. The sign in A in bar 83 seems to be inaccurate, yet FE has the same signs in both bars. We give the hairpins of EE, in bar 84 compatible with A. In GE1 the signs of A were recreated inaccurately, while in GE2 (→GE3GE4) they were homogenised.

b. 85-86

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

..

The sources differ in the range of the diminuendo hairpins. In A they begin on the 4th quaver in bar 85 and they end under the 10th quaver in bar 86. In GE the range of the hairpins was simplified, positioning them in the entire space of bars 85-86. In GE2 (→GE3GE4) the ending of the hairpins was specified, as they were shortened by one quaver in comparison with GE. In FE and EE the hairpins were put only in bar 85 and shortened to two middle quaver groups. We adopt the notation of A.

Lack of the cresc. hairpins in A (→GE1) in those bars (and also in bars 90-94) is most probably a result of Chopin's inattention. We give the hairpins after FE, compatible with those which we adopted for analogous bars 83-84.
