b. 34

composition: Op. 10 No 12, Etude in C minor

Octave in A

Chord in FE (→GE,EE

..

The octave in A is the original version, changed by Chopin in a proofreading of FE (→GE,EE). In FE the correction was inaccurately performed – there are no dots extending the added notes, while the  (cautionary) was placed at the pitch of b2. The rhythmic error was corrected in GE and EE and the  was moved before a2 in GE1, yet removed in EE and subsequent GE,s.

b. 37

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

..

In A the quaver flag is missing in the 3rd quaver of the bar. Chopin's obvious mistake was corrected in GE (→FEEE). It might have been noticed by Chopin himself, but it is more probable that it was the reviewer of GE that made the correction

composition: Op. 10 No 6, Etude in E♭ minor

Crotchet in A (→FEGE1)

Dotted crotchet in EE

Crotchet & rest in GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5)

..

In A (→FEGE1) the rhythmic values of the upper voice do not fill the 2nd half of the bar, as the d1-f1 third is a common crotchet. According to us, an oversight of the dots extending the crotchet are more likely in this situation. This is how it was interpreted in EE, adding the dots. In subsequent GE,s a quaver rest was added.
