The sole  mark written in A – the only one between bars 5 and 42 – was completed with a  mark at the end of bar 28 in a proofreading of FE (→GE,EE). According to us, while adding a  in this place, Chopin took into account only the part of the L.H., as a result of which he did not pay attention to the change of mode from major to minor. Therefore, in the main text we suggest an additional change of pedal at the beginning of this bar. Cf. bars 23-26 and 29-31

Our variant suggestion

..

Same as in bars 19-20, in A there is no  asterisk. In this kind of context, indicating the clear place of the pedal's release poses certain problems, as obtaining the correct sound effect requires a gradual pedal's release. In the main text we suggest the signs given in FE and EE in a variant form, as being probably authentic.

composition: Op. 10 No 5, Etude in G♭ major

No pedalling in A

Pedalling in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

GE3 (→GE4GE5)

Our suggestion

..

Chopin added the pedalling in a proofreading of FE. The  mark, overlooked in bar 28, was added in GE3 (→GE4GE5), yet too early, as it seems; the reviser probably did not notice that despite a different notation, the bass note remains unchanged during the entire bar. The addition we perform includes the authentic pedalling from the previous bar. See also bars 32-36

b. 32

composition: Op. 10 No 11, Etude in E♭ major

No sign in A (→FEGE1)

In this case the missing  in A (→FEGE1) should simply be considered as an oversight.
