In AI Chopin continues leading the bass line in octaves. In the published version the section encompassing bars 77-82 includes bass octaves only in bars 77 and 81, as was the case with bars 9-14.

In FED Chopin wrote the variant way of performing the arpeggio on the chord in the L.H. – with the added lower octave. We present a proposal of interpretation after the notation used by Chopin in the Etude in G major Op. 10 No. 5, bar 65.

Octaves & c in AI

3 times C in FE (→GE,EE)

..

The bass notes in bars 83, 85 and 87 varied in the earlier version – in bars 83 and 87 C-c octaves, while in bar 85 a single c note. Chopin standardised it in the published version, probably to emphasise the effect of repetition, being the first signal of harmonic stabilisation leading to the ending of the piece.

b. 103-104

composition: Op. 26 No 2, Polonaise in E♭ minor

Single notes in A (→FE1GE)

Octaves in FE2 (→EE)

..

The bass line led with single notes is the original version, changed by Chopin in the proofreading of FE2 (→EE). The proofreading proves that the introduced in many later collective editions change of the 1st octave in bar 103 from F1−F to G1−G cannot correspond to Chopin's intention.

The octaves in AsI in b. 112 and at the beginning of b. 116 are probably the initial version, possibly a temporary variant, eventually abandoned by Chopin (the latter could be indicated by the notation with the carelessly written down 8s, probably added later, since the other octaves are written down without abbreviations).
