b. 52

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

con forza in A (→GEFEEE)

Deleted in FES and removed from FEFr

Probable reading of the entry in FEJ

The variant proposal of the editors

..

The indication con forza occurring in A (→GE>FEEE) was deleted by Chopin in FEJ and FES, and removed by Franchomme from FEFr. We perceive those actions as the part of the radically altered concept for the dynamics in that part of the Nocturne (see bars 49-50). We also suggest the possibility of taking into account the somewhat unclear entry in FEJ.

No markings in GE1 (→FEEE)

Elements added in FEFr

..

The marking , present in A, was omitted in GE1 (→FEEE), and reappeared only in GE2. The   and  added in FEFr are the alternative supplement to the incomplete notation of the majority of editions (both sets of markings describe a similar - if not identical - performance).

b. 67

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

..

A does not have flats restoring a flat on the 3rd semiquaver of the 2nd half of the bar and a flat3 in the grace note before the 6th quaver of the bar. This is Chopin's obvious omission probably caused by the fact that in A the second part of the bar is written in a new line. In GE (→FEEE) the mistake was corrected only partly, as   was added before the grace note. The accidental before a flat was added in FEFr

b. 72-74

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

..

Franchomme added a cautionary  before d flat2 at the beginning of bars 72 and 74 in FEFr. Those signs are routine editorial revisions and they do not seem necessary in that melodic and harmonic context; therefore, we consider them to be inauthentic additions to FEFr.
