b. 366

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

d in chord in A & GE2

B in chord in GE1

B alone in FE (→EE1) & EE3

Sixth in EE2

..

Both the change introduced in GE1 and the one in FE definitely come from Chopin who was looking for the smartest connection of this bar with the following one, as far as the piano skills and harmony are concerned. At the same time, he most probably wanted to emphasise the chromatic movement of the bass, hence the arbitrary version of EE2 certainly does not correspond to his intention. The last crotchet in bar 368 underwent the same transformation, which excludes a possibility of a mistake in both versions.

b. 368

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

e in chord in A & GE2

c in chord in GE1

c alone in FE (→EE1) & EE3

Sixth in EE2

..

The first three out of the given versions are certainly authentic and they present an interesting example of Chopin's works on the detail, performed in stages. In EE2, due to the skepticism concerning the correctness of the version of FE and GE1, it was replaced with another one, structured analogously to the majority of the similar bars.

b. 370

composition: Op. 2, Variations, complete

g2 in A (→GEFESB,EE1EE2)

g2 in AsI, FEEE3

..

The version of A and of the majority of the editions with g2 as the 12th semiquaver must be erroneous – Chopin forgot to cancel the  put to g2, the first note in the bar. This is evidenced by:

  • g2 present in AsI; admittedly, there is no  in that version, yet it is not necessary, since the 1st semiquaver in the bar is written down as f2, and not g2;
  • a natural added to this note in FE, probably by Chopin;
  • g1 appearing twice on the 2nd beat of the bar in the L.H. – if Chopin wanted to have g2 in the R.H. in spite of this, he would not have hesitated to mark it clearly.

b. 371

composition: Op. 2, Variations, complete

c4 in A (→GEEE,FESB) & FE2

b3 in FE1

..

The version of FE1 is a mistake by the engraver, as evidenced by the compliant text of the remaining sources, including FE2, in which the mistake was corrected, probably at Chopin's request.

b. 373

composition: Op. 2, Variations, complete

..

In GE1 (→FE1,EE1) the last semiquaver is a2. The patent mistake – cf. analogous bar 271 – was corrected in FE2, probably at Chopin's request, and in GE2 (→GE3,FESB) and EE2 (→EE3).
