Shifting the  sign in GE is certainly an inaccuracy and the absence of the sign – a mistake of FE (→EE). In the main text we suggest adding a  sign, in accordance with the harmonic course.

The  mark in bar 205, which is not followed by a  mark in the majority of the sources, may be interpreted as a general col  or  simile indication (cf. e.g. the Etude in E major, op. 10, no. 11, bars 3-4). However, according to us, an inaccuracy, caused by a combination of oversights of both Chopin and the engraver of FE (e.g. the  mark in bar 205 would have fallen in FE at the end of the line, which favours inaccuracies), is more likely in this case. The additions suggested in the main text are modelled after the authentic indications in bars 203-204. A similar addition was introduced into GE3.

No sign in FE (→GE,EE)

Chopin did not specify the moment of pedal release; he probably meant its gradual release, the so-called diminuendo pedal. Such notation is to be found on a number of occasions in his works, cf. e.g. the Etude in D major, op. 25, no. 8, bar 27 or the Concerto in F minor, op. 21, the 1st mov., bars 299-300. In the main text, we suggest a mark more or less in the place where mixing subsequent chords dominates the echo of the bass B1-B octave.

Pedalling in GE

The partial lack of pedal markings in FE (→EE) must have resulted from an oversight, by the engraver or the copyist, or perhaps by Chopin himself if FE were based on the second autograph.

The missing pedal markings at the end of b. 217 and in b. 218 in A must be Chopin's inadvertence, since it is the end of a line in A, which is conducive to oversights – after a moment of distraction, the composer resumed writing indications from a new line.
