composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

In the majority of sources there is no  raising f3 to f sharp3. The sharp was added only in GE2

For writing that note Chopin used 4 ledger lines (one too many). He corrected his mistake by deleting the lowest ledger line. Interestingly, it seems that the engraver of GE did not notice the correction, as that edition has got visible traces of moving the note head down by a third.

as the lowest note of the chord on the 2nd quaver in the bar is most probably the engraver's error. The note was changed to e both in GE and EE.

In AO, there is a trill, whereas in AE (→CX) and CC - mordent. In AK, it is difficult to unambiguously interpret the notation of the ornament; it is most likely a mordent. The version of AR features a sole acrotchet, without ornament. In AG (→CY), there is a triplet (in AG, there is a letter of repetition of bar 21). The ornament in the form of two semiquaver grace notes in F, most probably resulting from an intention of writing out the mordent, is most likely Fontana's revision.

In CC, there is a cinstead of an a1. We consider it an example of the Terzverschreibung error; in the edition, we suggest an a1, like in the remaining sources.

d in GE

..

The d note in GE is a result of overlapping the mistake of FE1 and revision of GE: the erroneous note adopted from FE1 (without any accidental) was completed with a  by the reviser of GE, who above all was concentrated on completing the missing accidentals, therefore, it was adjusted to the Bchord. In a proofreading of FE2 Chopin changed d into B, restoring the version which – as shown by CLI – was the only intended one from the very beginning.
