Issues : Errors in EE

b. 11-12

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

..

EE1 is lacking the tie holding b2. The error is evidenced by both the correction in EE2 and the phrasing slur over that fragment. The same applies to analogous bars 93-94.

b. 11

composition: Op. 25 No 11, Etude in A minor

..

In the 2nd half of the bar, the only accidental in the part of the R.H. in GC, FE and EE1 is a  raising d3 to d3. The notation, although inaccurate, determines also the sound of the 6th and 10th semiquavers in the 2nd half of the bar as d2 and d1. In turn, nothing indicates raising the 3rd, 7th and 11th semiquavers, which, in this situation, should read f3f2 and f1. This version, however, is impossible in this melodic and harmonic context – the use of g as delay of the fifth of the B7 chord requires f (possibly f) as resolution. The sharps raising the discussed notes to f3f2 and f1 were added in GE and later EE (in EE2 without  before the 11th semiquaver). Cf. bar 75.

No signs in EE1

..

The absence of  signs is probably an oversight of the engraver of EE1, although a possibility of their removal by Chopin in the base text to this edition also cannot be excluded.

b. 11

composition: Op. 28 No. 9, Prelude in E major

..

The cautionary sharp before f is present in all sources except for EE1. It means that the overlooked, and perhaps removed accidental, was then added in EE2, perhaps as part of the comparison of the text with GE1, undertaken in EE2.

Slur in A (→FC,FE)

Slur in GE

No slur in EE1

Slur in EE2

..

In the main text we give the slur of A (→FC,FE). The earlier starting point of the slur in GE is an inaccuracy of the engraver, similar to the one in the previous bar. EE1 overlooked the slur (like the two adjacent ones), which was arbitrarily completed in EE2.
