First German edition, in which the entire Op. 10 was divided into two books, 6 etudes each. GE1 was based on a review copy of FE, which did not include Chopin's last corrections. It is revealed by a few marks added in a proofreading of FE and omitted in GE1 (see the characteristics of FE1), as well as numerous situations of this kind in the remaining Etudes.
In the entire Op. 10, numerous additions, above all, of accidentals and changes were introduced at the time of printing GE1; their traces are clearly visible. However, Chopin's participation in the creation of GE1 seems to be highly unlikely due to his relation with the just obtained Parisian editor, as well as due to some evidently erroneous, thus certainly non-authentic changes introduced in this edition – adding naturals before f in bar 43 and c3 in bar 51 (see also the Etude in C major, No. 1).
However, a kind of Chopin's influence on the final shape of GE1 cannot be excluded, therefore, the question of authenticity of some of the versions cannot be considered to be conclusively decided. In this Etude it concerns, e.g., completion of the fingering in bars 12 and 48, corrections of errors in bars 59 and 74 and, above all, addition of f1 to the final chord, which still prevails in the Etude's editions and performances in this completed version.
The remaining changes of GE1 in relation to FE1 are mainly corrections of various errors (all mentioned in the characteristics of FE1) and inaccuracies, as, e.g., the rhythmic notation in the L.H. in bar 31, addition of slurs in the L.H. in bars 6, 30 and 34, a staccato dot in bar 31, a 
mark in bar 54 and completion of accidentals, generally obvious, e.g., flats of b
3 and a1 in bar 38, sharps of f
2 and c2 in bars 41-42.
Similarly as in the case of the first book of the Etudes (No. 1-6), it is possible that there were copies of GE1 which differed in details of the cover, e.g., with repeated erroneous initial of Liszt's name (J) after FE1. Such copies have not been found yet.
The pencilled pagination visible in the presented copy is most probably much later.
