b. 9

composition: Op. 30 No. 1, Mazurka in C minor

No accidental in FC & FE (→EE)

 to c2 in GE

..

The cautionary  added in pencil to FC comes from the reviser of GE1, hence we do not include it in the text of the copy. The mark was taken into account only by GE.
The same in bar 45.

b. 16

composition: Op. 30 No. 1, Mazurka in C minor

Fingering written into FES

No teaching fingering

..

The fingering, coming most probably from Chopin, is written in the hand of his pupil, Thomas Tellefsen. The same applies to all subsequent cases – see the description of FES.

b. 16

composition: Op. 30 No. 1, Mazurka in C minor

Short accent on 2nd beat in FE (→EE)

Short accent on 3rd beat in FC (→GE)

Long accent suggested by the editors

..

A comparison with bar 24, in which all sources have an accent on the 3rd beat of the bar, allows us to consider the accent of FE (→EE) to be erroneous in the discussed bar. In the main text we give this mark the form of a long accent due to the clear long accent in FE present in a similar situation in bar 24, most probably repeated after [A].

b. 16-17

composition: Op. 30 No. 1, Mazurka in C minor

Separate slurs in FE (→EE)

Continuous slur in FC (→GE)

..

In the main text we give the continuous FC (→GE) slur, since in this manuscript one can see that the slur ending initially over the g1 semiquaver in bar 16, as it is in FE, was prolonged over bar 17 and further.

b. 17-19

composition: Op. 30 No. 1, Mazurka in C minor

No marks in FE (→EE)

Long accents in FC

Short accents in GE

..

Chopin added the long accents in bars 17 and 19 in FC. In GE they were reproduced as medium marks, which we interpret as short – see bar 1.
