Monsieur Titus Woyciechowski |
Crossed-out record of the initial edition of Variation IV in the autograph fair copy of the version for one piano. With he new, ultimate edition of the Variation, this manuscript served as the basis for the first German edition of the entire piece. The notation is careful, with numerous interpretation indications – noteworthy are the slurs and staccato dots with which Chopin consistently marked all similarly structured passage figures. The faults mostly comprise omitted accidentals – see e.g. bars 2, 6 and analog. or bar 16. According to the editors, it is also possible that Chopin mistakenly entered the original version of the L.H. arpeggio in bar 24.
