composition: Op. 2, Variations, complete

The version of AsI is the initial version of this place. In the final one, Chopin raised the position of the 2nd and 3rd L.H. quavers and simplified the excessively precise rhythmic notation of the 2nd half of the bar in which both notes have the value of semiquavers complemented with rests. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Accompaniment changes |

The separated a2 quaver leads to b2 in the next bar, thus creating a complete melodic sequence in the R.H. part (e4-a2-b2), alternative with respect to the line using the L.H. f4 (e4-f4-b2). Eventually, Chopin simplified the notation; perhaps he did not want to divert attention from the main line. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Main-line changes |

The ending of the trill is not written out either in AsI or in the sources of the piano part; however, it is present in the violin voice of GEorch (→FEorch). It seems likely that it is merely a notation difference, hence in the main text we suggest this ending in a variant form. Same in analogous b. 167, 199 and 239. In AsI, there are 2 versions of this bar – the 1st volta, slightly different from the 2nd volta of b. 111, with a repeat sign at the end, and the 2nd volta, generally compliant with the final text. The repetition of b. 112-127 was initially also present in A, in which, however, Chopin removed it by deleting the bar creating the 1st volta of b. 127 and erasing the 2nd volta marking over the bar containing the ending of the solo part. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations; Source & stylistic information issues: Corrections in A , Deletions in A , Changed phrase length |
