The decision to shorten the slur in GE2 (→GE3) could have resulted from the vague notation of GE1, in which the slur goes beyond f2 in bar 16, yet it does not reach g
2 in bar 17. On the other hand, in a similar situation in bars 20-21, the slur in GE1 is drawn in a clearer manner to g
2 in bar 21; nevertheless, in GE2 (→GE3) an analogous revision was performed. In both places, the reviser probably took into consideration the structure of the Mazurka – in bar 17, a new, eight-bar sentence begins, while in bar 21 – its second phrase.
