b. 91-92

composition: Op. 63 No. 1, Mazurka in B major

c1 tied in FE (→GE,EEC)

c1 repeated in EEW

..

The missing tie in EEW is a revision or an oversight by the engraver, taking into account the separation of the middle L.H. voice introduced by this edition. In AI bar 91 is absent (and the three preceding ones too) – see bar 87.

b repeated in AI & FE (→EE)

b tied in GE

..

A tie having been added between the b minims is a mistake or an arbitrary revision of GE.

b. 95-96

composition: Op. 63 No. 1, Mazurka in B major

Staccato chord in AI

Tenuto chord in FE (→GE,EE)

..

In an earlier version (AI), the dominant chord, played staccato, contrasts with the following tonic chord, held for almost 3 bars. While preparing the Mazurka for print, Chopin standardised the articulation of all accompanying chords in bars 95-99, and this is the version we give in the main text.

b. 96-99

composition: Op. 63 No. 1, Mazurka in B major

Tied chord without b in AI

Repeated, accented chords with b in FE (→GE,EE)

..

In AI the B major chord, accompanying the melody of the top voice, is played only once, in bar 96 and sustained to the first beat of bar 99. Therefore, there are no accents, visible in FE (→GE,EE). Moreover, this chord does not contain a b note. Interestingly, the deletions visible in AI reveal that the initial version was syncopated, which Chopin then abandoned while finishing the work on AI, but to which he returned in the published version.
