composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

In b. 95-96 and 99-100, the markings indicating that the bottom notes of the octaves should be performed by the left hand – m.g. = main gauche [left hand] – were added to FE (→GE) by Chopin. In EE, the French abbreviations were replaced with their English counterparts – L.H. = left hand. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Authentic corrections of FE |

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

A left out a few naturals to e notes (in various octaves) in b. 95-96 and 99-102. The patent inaccuracies were corrected in the subsequent editions; the fully correct version is included only in GE and EE3. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Accidentals in different octaves , GE revisions , Inaccuracies in A , Errors repeated in FE , Errors repeated in EE |

b. 100

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

The version of GE most probably resulted from revisions – due to the beginning of this motif being similar to the previous figures, authentic c1 was considered a mistake. This version was also introduced by EE3, most probably on the basis of one of GE. By coincidence, a few years later such a mistake – c1 minim instead of d1 in a similar harmonic context – was actually committed in FE1 of the Ballade in F major, Op. 38, b. 203. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , GE revisions |
