The missing staccato dots for the first two quadruplet crotchets must be a mistake of the engraver of GE, probably related to the placement of these marks, which makes them difficult to convey. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE |

It is uncertain how the removal of by GE3 came about. Anyway, it is a patent mistake, corrected by GE4. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE , GE revisions |

The missing asterisk is another mistake of GE2 caused by graphic retouches (the first is the distorted slur). The subsequent impressions did not notice the mistake. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE , Errors repeated in GE |

GE3 (→GE4) added a digit 3 over the first quaver, as if it constituted a part of the triplet with the next one, as in all subsequent, similar motifs. However, a respective rest is missing; moreover, the notes were not moved with respect to the L.H. part, which points to an unfinished change (intended and arbitrary) or to a mistake of the reviser (which seems more likely). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE , GE revisions |

In the main text we add slurs to the staccato dots with which the pairs of L.H. crotchets are marked in these bars (Chopin wrote such slurs only in the 2nd halves of b. 196, 198 and 200). We provide an extensive justification of this decision in the note concerning b. 9-21. As was the case there, slurs were added here also by EE3 (except for the 2nd half of b. 199). category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: EE revisions , Errors in GE , GE revisions , Authentic corrections of FE , FE revisions |
