Issues : Errors repeated in FE

b. 124

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

..

In A (→FE), there is not a single accidental in the R.H. passage in the entire 2nd half of the bar. This simplified notation was supplemented both by GE and EE.

b. 140

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

..

In A (→FEGE), there is no accidental to the 4th L.H. crotchet. Chopin's patent, as it seems, oversight went unnoticed by FE and the majority of GE; it was corrected only by EE and GE1a.

In A, the L.H. part was being corrected in this bar; consequently, due to deletions, Chopin was forced to write the final version on an adjacent stave. However, the flat was not overlooked due to the corrections, since it was also absent in the initial version of notation. The change concerned mainly rhythm, i.e. there were rests instead of the 3rd and 6th crotchets: . Before deleting the entire bar, Chopin probably changed the last chord too:  (both examples are to be interpreted in the key of E major, featuring A and a notes).

b. 154

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

..

In A (→FE), there is no accidental to the last quaver. In this context, it is a patent inaccuracy by Chopin, who would often consider the accidentals defined in the first octave of a scale or passage to be valid in subsequent octaves too (cf. the next bar or, e.g. the Prelude in D minor, Op. 28 No. 24, b. 18). Both GE and EE added a sharp here.

b. 155

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

..

In the entire descending passage, there is not a single accidental in A. FE added only a  to the 6th quaver (c3); the fact that it was only the 1st octave of the passage that was proofread may indicate Chopin as the initiator of the procedure. GE and EE added all the necessary sharps.

b. 156-157

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

..

In A (→FE), there is no  to the 6th quaver in b. 156 (f2). Chopin's patent inaccuracy was corrected by GE and EE.
In the main text we add cautionary flats to e1/2/3 in b. 156 and to the L.H. e1 in b. 157. Flats were added also by GE, and the one in b. 157 also by EE3.
