b. 155

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

..

In the entire descending passage, there is not a single accidental in A. FE added only a  to the 6th quaver (c3); the fact that it was only the 1st octave of the passage that was proofread may indicate Chopin as the initiator of the procedure. GE and EE added all the necessary sharps.

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

In A (→FE), there is no  to the 6th quaver in b. 156 (f2). Chopin's patent inaccuracy was corrected by GE and EE.
In the main text we add cautionary flats to e1/2/3 in b. 156 and to the L.H. e1 in b. 157. Flats were added also by GE, and the one in b. 157 also by EE3.

In the main text we add cautionary naturals before the last octave in b. 156 (C-c) and remove the flats, unnecessarily repeated in the sources, before the last octave in b. 157 (C-c).

The sharp to f3 is written in A much lower, at the pitch of b2. Such inaccuracies are often to be found in Chopinesque autographs.

b. 158-161

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

..

Having returned to the key of E major at the beginning of b. 158, Chopin inserted and then deleted in A the naturals to a in this bar (in the right and left hands) and to a1 in b. 159. By contrast, he left the cautionary  to a2 in the R.H. in b. 161. This version was repeated by all editions. In the main text we add cautionary naturals to a1 in b. 159 and a2 in b. 160-161 and cautionary flats to the L.H. e1/2/3 notes in b. 158-161.
