b. 127-130

6 staccato dots in bars 129-130 in GE

5 dots in bars 127-128 and 4 dots in bars 129-130 in FE (→EE1)

5 dots in both in EE2 (→EE3)

The articulation in FE (→EE1) seems to be the result of Chopin's correction, therefore we consider it more authoritative than the GE version. The lack of the first dot in bars 129-130 is probably an oversight, which was supplemented in EE2.

In the entire tempo di Mazourka section, this characteristic two-bar with an arched structure occurs 8 times in the accompaniment (b. 127-130, 147-150, 186-189 and 206-209). In GE, staccato dots appear only once – in b. 129-130. Probably during the proofreading of FE, Chopin began to complete the articulation in these bars – in FE (→EE1) there are 5 dots in b. 127-128, and 4 dots in b. 129-130 and 147-148 – which was not performed consistently in all places, though (Chopin may have considered, e.g., that marking the first three figures would suffice). Minor additions were made in EE2: in b. 129-130 and 147-148, two omitted dots were added to the FE version. In the discussed bars, we therefore give the EE2 articulation in the main text, and in the remaining places we propose appropriate additions in square brackets.
