This two-bar section appears 5 times in the entire Polonaise (b. 19-20, 45-46, 71-72, 278-279 and 304-305). In GE the first, the second and the fourth time (in the reprise) we can see the same, two-bar slur. The third and the fifth time there is no slur. In FE (→EE) the first time we can see a one-bar slur, while the second and the fourth time – a two-bar slur; the third and the fifth time there is also no slur. Since the reprise (b. 268-310) probably was not written out with notes in [A] and [FC], but marked as a repetition of b. 35-77, there is a possibility that the slur in b. 71-72 could have been overlooked by Chopin, which would automatically result in its absence in b. 304-305. In turn, the shorter slur in FE (→EE) in b. 19-20 is most probably a mistake of the copyist or the engraver.
